Isla Nublar

Isla Nublar

Isla Nublar is a remote island off the coast of Costa Rica. Isla Nublar is a reverse teardrop shaped island. The Island was abandoned due to a second containment breach. Isla Nublar is a beautiful island with many mountains, valleys, and even a couple different waterways goin through and around the island. Isla Nublar is only accessible through a ferry, helicopter, or other form of boat. The western side of the island has a continental range of highlands, velvet green cliffs, waterfalls, and deep valleys. The rivers stream to the eastern part of the island and on the northern side there are many mountains and volcanoes. The most notable volcano is Mount Sibu.

Isla Nublar was named due to its meaning, “Cloud Island”. The Island has a surface area of 77 square kilometers (29.7 miles) and was intended to be the original launching place for the Jurassic Park. However after it got abandoned it got damaged in 2018 after Mt. Sibu erupted.

Isla Nublar History

Isla Nublar was first found by Diego Fernandez, the first European to set foot on the island, in 1525. However in 1980 John Hammond inquired to buy Isla Nublar from Costa Rica, which they agreed to lease out the island to him. It then became the isolated location that he needed for his project, Ingen built two docks on the opposite side of the island to make it easier to transfer equipment and workers to the island. In 1987, the construction of Jurassic Park began. In 193 Nedry decided to hack the computers and put a virus on them, shutting down the power grid and releasing the dinosaurs, causing one of the first catastrophic events on the island. A few years after Ingen decided to send up a lean up crew and some other scientist to document what had happened to the park, and noted the animal life had been greatly reduced.

In 2002, after the destruction of Jurassic Park, Ingen decided to start a new park and named it Jurassic World. It was located in the southern part of the island and began with only eight different species of dinosaurs.

Isla Nublar Disasters

The first incident that happened was in the original park. After Nedry sent a virus to the computers and shut down the whole power grid, essentially shutting down the holding the units, all the dinosaurs got released and escaped from their enclosures, causing mayhem and destruction. Not only did they destroy a lot of the park it also resulted in the dinosaurs creating more trouble than it was worth, though this was the first time this happened and was contained after a long time of trying to figure everything out, the containment was an island evacuation through the heliport. Isla Nublar lost a lot of profit, and Ingen suffered major financial losses after the incident happened. They then decided to tear down Jurassic Park. Though there weren't only financial losses due to this incident, a lot of people ended up losing loved ones due to the Tyrannosaurus Rex.

However; that was only the first time that happened. Ingen decided to reopen a new park and ne=amed it Jurassic World. They took a lot of steps to try to avoid having the same issues as last time. The previous park used paddocks, while the new park used electric fences and more precautionary enclosures, though it didn’t work as they had planned.. Before the second incident happened Doctor Henry Wu decided to create two different hybrid dinosaurs. The first one was known as the Scorpius Rex, which was never actually released in the park or brought to society so nobody knew anything about this hybrid. The second one was known as the Indomius Rex, Ingen and Doctor Wu actually released this one to the park and showed it off to the tourists, however; things didn’t go as they planned when it came to the Indominus Rex. There was a catastrophic power grid failure which once again shut down the enclosure and all the dinosaurs got released, including the indominus Rex. The park had to do another evacuation, but they couldn't get everyone off the island safely. Luckily the T-rex who lived on Main Street fought the Indominus with Blue, the velociraptor, and they won. The park was shut down indefinitely after this happened.

The third and final catastrophic event actually isn’t nearly as interesting as the last two, but the volcano on the island, Mount Sibu ended up erupting. Owen Grady and a few others had to go back to the park to save the dinosaurs, and make sure they were okay.

Waterways around Isla Nublar

There are three main notable waterways around Isla Nublar. The Pacific Ocean, The Isla Nublar River, and the Watering Hole.

The Pacific Ocean is the main watering point of Isla Nublar as it surrounds the island in all areas. It’s self explanatory, the ocean is the point in where tourists go through to get to the island, and to get off the island.

The Watering Hole is a secluded area of water where the dinosaurs go and drink in harmony, carnivores, omnivores, and herbivores. There haven’t been many noted fights in this location, it’s a point of tranquility where all the dinosaurs drink together in tranquility.

The Isla Nublar River is a river that runs fully across and throughout the island. It’s a manmade river that is a few meters deep and a few meters wide. The Isla Nublar River runs to the aviary and the Ptetops Lodge. It’s also the main point for the Jungle River Cruise.

Conclusion

Isla Nubar is a beautiful island and so much has happened over the course of the time of the parks being on it. Though the island is still standing and it’s a sight to see. Of course the island is only real in the Jurassic Park world. The show was filmed mostly in Hawaii, so if you wish to visit Isla Nublar, Hawaii is the place to go! Though of course there won’t be any dinosaurs there.
