Get ready and let us take you back to a world where dinosaurs once roamed free! The Jurassic World movies have taken everyone who's seen them on a thrilling ride filled with gentle - and not so gentle - giants, groundbreaking CGI, and heart-pounding action. But with multiple films, it can be easy to get lost in the timeline. Whether you're a die-hard fan or curious about the franchise, this blog will make sure you experience the Jurassic World movies in the chronological order they were intended to be seen.
While the Jurassic World movies technically stand alone, it's important to know that there was one film that started it all: Steven Spielberg's iconic 1993 masterpiece, Jurassic Park. This groundbreaking film established the core concept of bringing dinosaurs back to life through genetic engineering of InGen and the disastrous consequences that follow. While not directly part of the Jurassic World movies, Jurassic Park lays the foundation for the world of the later movies.
Jurassic World (2015): 22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar is home to a fully operational theme park filled with genetically recreated dinosaurs. Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), a velociraptor trainer, and Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), the park's operations manager, must face the consequences when a new genetically modified dinosaur, the Indominus Rex, that eventually wreaks havoc.
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018): 3 years after the destruction of Jurassic World, Owen and Claire work to save remaining dinosaurs from a volcanic eruption threatening Isla Nublar. However, their efforts have unintended consequences, as dinosaurs are released into the mainland, completely changing the natural order and starting the Neo-Jurassic-Age.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022): 4 years after the dinosaurs' release, humans and dinosaurs coexist somehow. Owen and Claire still live in this new world while trying to protect Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), a young girl cloned from the original Jurassic Park creator's DNA. Meanwhile, a new bioengineering corporation threatens the fragile equilibrium between humans and dinosaurs.
The Jurassic World movies in order have now been explained. But there are also short films like Battle at Big Rock (2019) and Jurassic World: Dominion Prologue (2021) that offer glimpses into the lives of characters and the evolving world after dinosaurs are set free. Additionally, the animated series Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous (2020-present) follows a group of teenagers stranded on Isla Nublar after the events of the first Jurassic World movie and are all worth a watch!
Jurassic World "Upcoming" (Expected July 2, 2025): While details remain under wraps, this upcoming movie is said to be the next chapter in the Jurassic World saga. With rumors of the return of some fan-favorite characters from the original movies, this one promises to be an epic conclusion (or perhaps a new beginning?) for the franchise. What do you think?
