Ankylosaurus

The Ankylosaurus

The ankylosaurus was an herbivorous dinosaur in the cretaceous period. They had a very impressive armor all over their body, the armor is made of thick bony plates that protect them from predators. They had a lark tail that was in the shape of a club that they used to protect themselves from their predators. Which they had very few of. There isn’t much research on their grouping, though it is believed that they lived alone or in small herds with one or two other ankylosaurus. They spent most of their days grazing and munching on herbs, ferns, shrubs, and fruits. Though they enjoyed all types of plants, they preferred to eat any plants that were low to the ground and easily accessible. Though they are typically small dinosaurs the largest ankylosaurus actually reached up to lengths of 30 feet (9 meter)

Ankylosaurus Habitat

The ankylosaurus lived in north america during the cretaceous period. Their main places to live were grasslands, plains, and woodlands. They thrived in areas with a lot of abundant rainfall and places that provided shelter. The woodlands provided plenty of shelter from the heat and their predators while the grassland and plains provided a great place for grazing and drinking. The climate they lived in was generally warm which was a great way to allow for more plant growth. They typically preferred the weather being rainy but warm, as it allows them to not heat up so easily while they were eating.

Ankylosaurus Significance

The ankylosaurus is a key piece in the prehistoric science puzzle as the ankylosaurus offers some very valuable information about life on earth 67 billion years ago. They are a very iconic dinosaur in any dino lovers life. They have a very unique appearance, they have a very powerful defense attached to their own body and they have a major cultural impact. They help science with evolutionary understanding, and they have defensive adaptations. The ankylosaurus also made a major impact on the paleoecological indicator.

Predators of the Ankylosaurus

Though the Ankylosaurus had very few predators there of course were a few. The main ones being the larger and more aggressive types of dinosaurs. Most little dinosaurs didn’t pose a threat however these bigger dinos did. The best examples of predators to the ankylosaurus would be the T-rex, being very very capable of anything to do with fighting the ankylosaurus, the gorgosaurus, they are also very capable however they are very much smaller than the trex. The last main predator of the Ankylosaurus is the troodon, which mainly go after the young ankylosaurus. However they didn’t get too far due to the ankylosaurus built in defense.

Cool Facts

Some very interesting facts about the ankylosaurus are that the ankylosaurus are practically a living tank, as they have built in armor and they have a club for a tail to help them defeat their predators and the armor helps them from being attacked by most other dinosaurs. They are also low riding to the ground to help them prevent from being tipped over, as they would be very vulnerable, due to not being able to get up very easily.
