🦕 Who was this creature? 

 

Dimetrodon was a large, scaly creature with a sort of sail-like protuberance on its back and pointed fangs. This reptile existed approximately 290 million years ago, before the Earth was dominated by dinosaurs. 
Its sail was a novel feature in the animal kingdom, and it belonged to the class of reptiles known as pelycosaurs. 

 

🦕 For what purpose was that sail? 

 

For years, scientists have been attempting to determine exactly what it was for. Some claim it utilized it to control its body temperature, while others think it did it to intimidate rivals or draw in a partner. Imagine two Dimetrodons with their sails out, facing each other! What a sight from prehistory! 

 

🦕 Why is people thinking it's a dinosaur? 

 

Its look is the primary factor. It seems like something from a Jurassic Park movie, especially with that sail and those teeth. For many years, dinosaurs were erroneously depicted, with a stooped posture and dragging their tails. As a result, the previously discovered Dimetrodon came to be associated with the category of "prehistoric reptile".

Dimetrodon is far more than just a recognizable visage. Even though the Dimetrodon is not a true dinosaur, it is nevertheless a remarkable animal that sheds light on prehistoric life.
