🦕 Who is this "Jaxa"... what?

Its name literally means "Jaxartes Lizard," in honor of the Jaxartes River in Central Asia, where its fossils were found. Interesting, right?

With its 8 or 9 meters long, its robust body and a hollow crest on its head (very "look at my style"), Jaxartosaurus was a hadrosaurid, that is, one of those known as "duck-billed dinosaurs." But make no mistake: beneath that friendly appearance, there was a creature that wouldn't be fooled.

🦕 What does it look like in World of Jurassic Park?

In our role-playing jungle, the Jaxartosaurus doesn't go unnoticed. It's a majestic creature that usually moves in herds, occupying wet, open areas near rivers or swamps. You can see it eating peacefully, letting out guttural growls to communicate with its own kind, or, if you're unlucky, defending itself with shoves that could send an entire velociraptor flying.

The best part? It's not aggressive... unless you provoke it. If you enter its territory with bad intentions, prepare for a stampede. Literally. In role-playing, players often use it as part of the landscape or to enrich exploration scenes, but it can also be the trigger for a conflict.

Imagine this: your character wants to cross a valley, but a herd of Jaxartosaurus is resting right in the middle. Do you surround them, try to scare them off, or act brave? Spoiler alert: that last one could leave your (role-playing) bones pretty bruised.

In World of Jurassic Park, that detail becomes a very fun role-playing tool: you can use its song as a signal of imminent danger, or as a mysterious sound that your characters hear without knowing what's causing it.
