Lystrosaurus
YEAR 14 WEEK 8 // Lucian Davenport

Lystrosauruses, the pigs of the old world. Being around 0,6 meters to 2,5 meters tall (2-8 feet) with a brown and grey skin. They can weight everything from 50 - 90 kilograms. So they can be as small as a small dog or as big as a brown bear, so they really differ in size depending of which specied of Lystrosaurus it is and where it lives. They only have two tusk looking teeth and mostly uses it horny beak to bite of its plant based food. IT has a robust body, with its front legs being the most robust parts. They use the robust front legs to dig. So it has a really unique appearance. Looking at the picture to the left i think it looks like a big ant.

Lystrosauruses are herbivores which means they are strict vegetable eaters. Eating whatever plants they could find in the jungles such as leafes, flowers etc. This means they are quite calm and passive animals. They dont attack humans without being threatened by us. But dont be fooled by its small size. Their jaws and tusks makes perfect weapons as they can attack you in a quick manner and hurt you pretty badly. They lived through the late Permian and early Triassic epochs around 250 million years ago.

They were found on Pangea, in the regions that is now called China, Mongolia, Antarctica, South Africa and India. So their species were very stretched out on the super continent of Pangea. Which made them the most common herbivore of its time. It is also said that the Lystrosaurus is concidered the first evidence of hibernation of some sort. They nested in burrows which could be why they would be safe enough from predators to hibernate.
