Isla Nublar
Isla Nublar: The Island Where It All Began
Isla Nublar is the legendary island off the coast of Costa Rica where John Hammond built the original Jurassic Park. This volcanic island has been the setting for some of the franchise's most iconic moments — from the first glimpse of living Brachiosaurus to the fall of Jurassic World.

The Geography of Isla Nublar
Isla Nublar is approximately 22 square miles of tropical jungle, volcanic terrain, and coastal plains. The island features a central volcanic mountain, dense tropical forests, river systems, and a varied coastline with cliffs and beaches. Its isolation made it the perfect location for a dinosaur theme park — and the perfect prison when things went wrong.
From Jurassic Park to Jurassic World
Hammond's original Jurassic Park featured electric fences, concrete moats, and a visitor center that became infamous. After the 1993 disaster, the island was abandoned. Years later, Jurassic World was built on the same site — a fully operational theme park with the Mosasaurus lagoon, Gyrosphere Valley, the Indominus Rex paddock, and the Innovation Center. The 2015 incident destroyed this park as well.
In Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the island's volcano erupted, leading to a desperate rescue mission for the island's dinosaurs. Isla Nublar was ultimately destroyed, but its legacy lives on.
