Owen Grady and Blue
Owen Grady and Blue: The Bond That Changed Everything
The relationship between Owen Grady and his Velociraptor Blue is the emotional heart of the Jurassic World trilogy. Their bond challenged everything the franchise had established about the relationship between humans and dinosaurs, proving that respect, trust, and connection could exist across 65 million years of evolution.
Explore their story in World of Jurassic Park. The lexicon has detailed profiles on both.
Owen Grady: The Raptor Whisperer
Former Navy veteran Owen Grady was hired by InGen to research Velociraptor intelligence at Jurassic World. Using imprinting techniques and consistent behavioral training, he raised four raptors from birth: Blue, Charlie, Delta, and Echo. Owen established himself as the pack's alpha through mutual respect rather than dominance — a radical approach that yielded remarkable results.
Chris Pratt's portrayal of Owen brought a new kind of hero to the franchise — someone who understood that these creatures deserved respect, not exploitation.
Blue: More Than a Raptor
Blue is a Velociraptor with enhanced intelligence, created with DNA from the black-throated African monitor lizard. She serves as the beta of the raptor pack and becomes its alpha after Owen. Blue demonstrates loyalty, strategic thinking, and even empathy — choosing Owen over the Indominus Rex when it tried to command the pack. In Fallen Kingdom, she is wounded and healed. In Dominion, she has reproduced asexually, raising a baby raptor named Beta.
